Rouhani’s FM nominee Mohammad Javad Zarif was grilled during the Majlis session convened to discuss Rouhani’s list of ministers. Nasrollah Pejmanfa. One Majlis member said that “our enemies have set their greedy eyes on Zarif and Americans have termed him (Rouhani’s decision to nominate him) as an ‘olive branch’… ”Therefore, Zarif has to clearly declare that we do not want to have relations with the U.S…. “Nuclear energy is our absolute right. But the question is whether you (Zarif) agree to make a deal (with the U.S) over our national interests”. Another Majis member Nader Ghazipour maintains that since Zarif serves in Iran’s UN mission time, he is not familiar with Middle East developments. He questioned Zarif about his view of the Islamic Awakening (Arab Spring). “Do you accept the events in the Arab world as an Islamic awakening or do you not accept the Islamic term?” Zarif replayed saying that Rouhani’s is determined to interact with the world, without withdrawing even one iota from Iran’s due rights…There have been questions regarding my engagement with some current U.S. officials…Some of these officials were once against the warmongering (U.S.) government. I communicated with them in the framework of my duties. I’m proud if I have been able to create a divide among those pushing for a war (against Iran).”
Zarif also updated his FaceBook page and uploaded his statements to YouTube following his appearance in the Majlis.
