Asharq al-Awsat newspaper launches Persian website

Leading and influential pan –Arab Saudi Arabia-sponsored Asharq al-Awsat daily newspaper launched a Persian website. “Sharq Parsi aims to reflect the geopolitical and cultural significance of current affairs in the Middle East to Persian speakers. It strives to offer balanced, in-depth and up-to-date news coverage and analysis of the Middle East. As part of this mission, Sharq Parsi publishes Persian versions of articles from Asharq Al-Awsat’s Arabic and English editions.” Sharq Parsi will also be available on Twitter (@SharqParsi) and FaceBook (https://www.facebook.com/the.sharq.parsi). The move is part on an ongoing competition between Sunni Saudi Arabia and Shiite Iran to win the hearts and minds of the Muslim world and to shape public opinion.
