75-year-old Baha’i citizen violently beaten in Tehran Province Administration

Wednesday, 25 September 2013

75-year-old Baha’i Behzad Shokui, who filed a lawsuit with the Ministry of Agriculture, was summoned to the Tehran Province Administration, where he was violently beaten. Behzad headed a division in the Ministry of Agriculture before the Revolution but was ousted from his government position, as were many other Baha’i after the Revolution, and prohibited from serving in any civil servant position. In the 34 years that have passed since his termination and with the election of the new government in Iran, Behzad filed a new Statement of Claim regarding his issue with the Ministry of Agriculture. He was immediately summoned by the Tehran Province Administration, where he was violently beaten by interrogators, who threatened him that they would not continue to handle his case.
