The Head of the Iranian Statistical Center Adel Azar announced that recently published statistics revealed 12.2% aggregate unemployment across Iran in the general population at the end of 1391 (20 March 2013), one of the highest unemployment rates Iran has seen in the past decade. According to Azar, the unemployment rate among people between the ages of 15-24 is close to 26%, an extremely high number. The unemployment rate among young people is twice as high as the rate in the general population, indicating that we are in the midst of an unemployment crisis. The highest unemployment rate is is Lorestan Province, with over 50% unemployment, while the lowest rate is in the northern provinces and in Golestan Province. The Statistical Center does not examine the reasons but only the numbers. Azar added that the sum of the economic partnership of the active population in Iran is between 38-39, and this is a low number, as it should be above 40%.
