Rafsanjani criticizes recent US sanctions; EU mulls opening an office in Tehran

Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani has criticized recent US sanctions against Iran at a meeting with a visiting European parliamentary delegation “Commitment to one’s sealed (nuclear) agreement is the first and foremost principle in the political ethics of diplomacy…The world expected Obama’s administration to respect the agreements…” Regarding the human rights situation in Iran, Rafsanjani said: “Our extremely progressive constitution bears testimony to our (commitment) to human rights. We advise the Europeans for once to study our constitution.” During the meeting, EU parliamentarian Tarja Cronberg expressed hope that the European Union will be able to open an office in Tehran to expand cooperation with Iran ”following the finalization of contracts.”
