IRGC intelligence continues its crackdown against social network activists

The IRGC intelligence unit has arrested Mohammad Amin Akrami, who used to live abroad and who returned to Iran from India six months ago. Akrami, who was arrested in late November, is currently  undergoing interrogation in Ward 2-A (IRGC’s detention centre)”. Mehdi Reyshahri Tangestani from Shahinshahr, another social media activist, was arrested last month by  the same unit.  The arrests come as part of the IRGC’s recent crackdown on online activists. On  December 2nd, several staff members of a popular Information Technology website “Narenji” were arrested. Later on December 4th, the IRGC’s intelligence unit in Kerman said they had arrested 16 cyber activists for “having links to foreign media.” On December 5, five FaceBook activists were arrested on charges of “assembly with the intent to act against national security.” Related: At least 45 Facebook users arrested in Tehran ; Six journalists and members of the technical crew of prominent technological website arrested in Iran
