Iran’s Supreme Leader believes in Bashar Assad and in Syria

Wednesday, 15 January 2014

In a media interview, the head of the Defense Committee in the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Esmail Kowsari said that several months ago, the committee team traveled to Syria and Lebanon, where they met with Bashar Assad, Syrian officials and then with Hezbollah Secretary General Saeed Hassan Nasrallah. Nasrallah told us during this meeting that “nine months after the crisis broke out in Syria, we saw that the situation was difficult and that it was on the verge of ending. We went to the Supreme Leader (Khamenei) along with several officials and told him to find a solution to the Syrian situation and for Bashar Assad. Khamanei heard everything we had to say and told us “You are wrong. Go do what you need to do. Prepare and formulate plans. Syria will remain in place, as will Bashar Assad.”
