Rouhani appointed reformist councilor from Tehran Masud Soltanifar as the new head of Iranian Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization (ICHTO). He will be an ex-officio vice-president. The appointment comes after Rouhani accepted the resignation of Mohammad Ali Najafi, a leading reformist politician who was the previous head of the ICHTO. Rouhani appointed Najafi as presidential adviser and the secretary of Economic Cooperation Centre. Soltanifar, who was born in 1959, is currently a member of the reformist faction in the Tehran City Council and was previously a vice-president of the national sports organization. He, who holds a M.A. in political science, was also a faculty member in the Expediency Council’s Strategic Research Centre, where he worked under Rouhani. Rouhani had previously proposed Soltanifar as the sports and youth minister but he had failed to secure a vote of confidence from the Majlis.
