Oil Minister: Every contractor that imports products and equipment for the oil industry when there is an Iranian-made equivalent will be removed from the list of partners in the oil industry

Monday, 10 June 2013

Rostam Qasemi issued a new ultimatum to Iranian contractors and announced that any contractor that imports products and equipment for the oil industry when there is an Iranian-made counterpart will be removed from the list of partners in the Oil Industry. Mehr News is reporting that manufacturers of oil industry equipment have expressed their dissatisfaction with the product and equipment procurement process by the Oil Ministry and its member companies, and believe that despite the banning of Western products, the volume of purchases of this equipment from Iranian manufacturers and industrialists is still not satisfactory. According to the report, some foreign manufacturers, particularly the Chinese, are supplying USD 10 billion in equipment to the oil industry, while Iranian manufacturers are raking in USD 5 billion, despite Oil Ministry assurances to Iranian manufacturers that the volume of purchases from Iranian manufacturers this year would exceed USD 10 billion.
