Managing Director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), Ahmad Qalebani, said that the (USD 40 million offshore) platform jacket that recently sunk in the Persian Gulf will be recovered from the bed of the sea. “Assessments show that the sunken jacket has not been damaged seriously and can be recovered at good speed.” Qalebani blamed bad weather and floppy sea bed. An anonymous official of the Iranian Oil Company said that the reason behind the breakage of a jacket in Phase 13 of the South Pars gas field is the breakage of booms on the crane vessel installing the jacket.
