Yahya Safavi analyzed the political and security situation in Western Asia, and emphasized that by 2030, Western Asia, of which Iran is part, will be from a strategic standpoint, at a critical political, security and economic turning point, and is now experiencing a geopolitical transition. Safavi claims that the main foreign players are the Americans, Russians, Chinese and to a certain extent Indians. Inter-regional players are Iran, Turkey and Israel. For various reasons, by 2030, this area will be the arena for rivalries, attention and conflict between the world’s superpowers. This region is the largest source of energy (oil and gas) in the world. The Persian Gulf contains 65% of the world’s crude oil and over 30% of the world’s gas is found in this region. The Persian Gulf and the eight countries around it can supply energy to the world for another 70 years, whereas the energy sources in the rest of the world, and particularly crude oil in the US and Europe are dwindling. Every day, 15-17 million barrels of crude oil pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Safavi added, “Until the destruction (اضمحلال) of the Zionist regime (Israel), there will be no peace in this region, and this fake regime, which is supported by the US, is the source of tension and lack of security in Western Asia and North Africa. Safavi further added that the United States, the Zionist regime (Israel) and several Arab nations such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, which take their orders from the US, are trying to create a fake model of Islamic Awakening (Iranian term for the Arab Spring) in Syria and have therefore poured money, weapons and mercenaries into Syria. The policies of the US and the Zionist regime as well as the billions of dollars of Qatar and Saudi Arabia have failed (to effect change) in Syria, and the Turkish government is also suffering from protests and serious problems, which prove Turkey’s incorrect policies with respect to its neighbor, Syria. He added that the Supreme Leader’s strategic policy with regards to Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria have made Iran a regional power in Western Asia, and the Americans and Zionists as well as some Arab nations are extremely angry about this, since it proves the failure of Obama’s policies in the region. Safavi further stressed that the strategic axis between Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon is the axis of the Mediterranean, adding that to date, Iran has wielded influence over the Mediterranean on several occasions. Once, during the era of Cyrus the Great with the liberation of Jerusalem, and again during the period of Xerxes with the passage from the Strait of Bosforus and march towards Greece. And a third time is now, with Hezbollah’s power in Lebanon, which is Iran’s long defensive arm, waving above the head of the Zionist regime (Israel). It is Iran’s strategic defense force against any possible attack by the Zionists on its nuclear facilities. If the Zionists provoke any problem for Iran, Haifa and Tel-Aviv will turn to ashes.
