This issue has become a focal point for the Iranian media in recent days. It was written that the “distribution of the basket of products” was one of Rouhani’s election promises and on the first day of its implementation provoked serious protest by Majlis representatives who demanded an investigation of the Ministry of Industry in this matter. In the days preceding implementation of the program, sharp criticism increased and on the method for identifying people included in the program – those eligible for the basket and the composition of products in the product basket. In all of the criticism, one extremely familiar expression was found “fostering beggars”, an expression heard frequently in recent years by the opposition to the Ahmadinejad government and those who viewed the cash subsidy payments by Ahmadinjead as a form of fostering beggars. The problems in the way the product basket is distributed were immediately revealed in the first stage of implementation, and only one current among the politicians criticized it. All of the figures and media that had criticized Ahmadinejad are all silent this time. The question is then asked as to whether Hashemi Rafsanjani and the reformists don’t consider the product basket as fostering beggars?
