Khamenei religious verdict prohibits socializing with Baha’is, trade with Israel and wearing clothes that emulate Western culture

Wednesday, 31 July 2013

Supreme Leader Seyyed Ali Khamenei issued a fatwa (a religious verdict), calling on his followers to “Avoid socializing with this misguided and misguiding cult” (Baha’i faith). Tasnim news agency published a list of 493 fatwas issued by Khamenei on a variety of subjects: the concept of the Guardianship of the Islamic Jurists (Velayat-e faqih), commercial transactions with Israel, Internet, satellites, studying in coeducational universities, witchcraft and many other subjects. In another fatwa, the Supreme Leader prohibited buying Israeli goods, selling any goods to Israel and carrying out any transactions with “Zionist” companies or “companies that benefit from helping the usurper Israeli government.” Other fatwas banned “wearing clothes that emulate and spread non-Muslim (Western) invading culture.” Khamenei considers himself to be a “source of emulation” for Shiites in Iran and beyond. Regardless, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Husaini Sistani is considered to be the most prominent Shiite religious leader and a source of emulation for Shiites in Iran, Iraq and other Shiites communities.
