New Labor Minister ends Saeed Mortazavi’s appointment on the Social Security Organization’s Board of Trustees

New labor minister Ali Rabi’i -  in one of the first decisions – removed controversial ex-judge Saeed Mortazavi from the trustees’ board of the Social Security Organization (SSO).Iran’s Ministry of Labor issued a communiqué saying the new members of the trustees’ council will be appointed by the suggestion of the minister and approved by the Welfare and Social Security Council (WSCC). Rabi’i has appointed Samadollah Firuzi as the caretaker of the Social Security Organization (SSO). Mortazavi previously served as the caretaker of the SSO during Ahmadinejad’s presidency. Before that, he was Tehran’s prosecutor from 2002 to 2009. In summer 2009, Mortazavi was suspended as a judge due to his role in the operation of Kahrizak detention center during the post-presidential election protests of 2009 where a number of inmates were murdered. Mortazavi was arrested and briefly held in Tehran’s Evin prison in January 2013
