Majlis National Security Committee (NSFPC) stressed that the Additional Protocol (AP) to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is a red line in the Iran and P5+1 nuclear negotiations. The SNSC condemned a statement made by US under secretary for political affairs Wendy Sherman “we know deception is part of the (Iranian) DNA”- saying that the committee expects American officials to “clarify their stance on these kinds of remarks. NSFPC spokesman Seyyed Hussein Naqavi added that “repetition of such behavior by American officials increases the Iranian people and government’s mistrust toward America.” Sadeq Zibakalam, professor of political science in Tehran University, has termed “such remarks” as “mere racism.” Mehr News published an editorial headlined asking are “Those Believing Iranian Gene As Deceptive, Reliable?.  Majlis member for Tehran and one of Rouhani’s key supporters Ali Motahhari said that said that  ”The time has not yet come to sign this (Additional) Protocol…The Majlis should only ratify the protocol in the final days of the  (nuclear) negotiations since “it would then be clear what concessions the West is  willing to give Iran.”
