Hojjatoleslam Mahmoud Rajabi, acting head of the Imam Khomeini Education and Research Institute, discussed the fact that some are linking President-Elect Rouhani to the reformist current and added that all political currents and groups that have no status and basis in society, and even the enemies overseas, are trying to profit form the results and create the impression that Rouhani’s election matches their own goals and agenda. The fact that the President Elect thanked Khatami does not constitute approval of reformist ideology and measures adopted by them. Even the majority of people who voted for Rouhani do not support the reformists. Iranian citizens fiercely condemn the period of rule by the reformists and do not want to go back to that period. Mr. Rouhani also emphasized in the election campaign that he does not belong to either the conservative or the reformist current, but is a moderate. During the reformist period, some people claimed that we must abandon revolutionary slogans and some even argued that we should recognize the existence of Israel. Rouhani unquestionably opposes this.
