Minister of Defense: West’s military presence in the Persian Gulf “pollutes” the region with their nuclear powered ships

Thursday, 10 May 2012

Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said while addressing the 20th Conference of Marine Organizations on Kish (free trade zone) that Western forces “are uninvited guests” to the region and that there are no reasons for their presence. Vahidi added,

Iran plays a major security role in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, while the foreigners endanger the region’s security by using security as an excuse and polluting the ecosystem of the Gulf with their nuclear powered ships…They speak of free trade, but impose an embargo on Iran’s transportation, while commercial shipping lines are responsible for shipping basic goods and should not be subject to sanctions.

He criticized UAE over its claim to the three islands, saying that “other countries flourish at our expense and then propose unjust and wrong ideas. We get nothing out of this.”
